Joining Security as a Second Career
My experience of Vodafone is a pretty exciting one so far. I joined the Cyber Defence team five months ago in a newly created role and I’ve been able to take an active part in how it is shaped and what my day to day tasks look like. I really like the fact that even as a new member of staff, I’ve been able to have a voice and have my ideas listened to, it is a really collaborative environment within my team and everyone is genuinely really friendly; no question is too small or too silly when you’re settling in. Right from the beginning I’ve been able to get involved in all manner of the exciting projects going on here, something that I have personally loved being able to get stuck in with and contributing to. Being able to be part of such a vital part of the company is a really invigorating experience, hopefully if we do our jobs properly in cyber defence you won’t ever really know that we are here.
Coming into the cyber security industry was a second career decision for me, and Vodafone have offered me the opportunity to learn and develop my understanding of the business whilst in a working environment. They also provided training to hone my development and help to build my future career with in the Security industry. Vodafone was really open minded to the fact that I spent the first part of my working life in a different sector, and actually I get to work with a lot of people who have all gained experience in a variety of ways, it’s just another example of what makes it great to be here, you have people bringing lots of different views and experiences to the table.
The company as a whole has a really fun vibe running through it and there is definitely this idea that we are all one team aiming for the same thing, that being able to provide excellent customer service and a high standard of our product output, whatever that may be. I’d like to reiterate just how friendly everyone is, I don’t think I could emphasise this enough, it is important, to me at least, that you can be in a safe and supported environment so that you can focus on getting on with the job in hand.
