Joining Vodafone when I was 19 (I’m now 31!), I began my career in Technical Support, spending time as a Blackberry Web & Enterprise Specialist, which lasted a couple of years. I really enjoyed that role as I like to think of myself as pretty tech-savvy, and that allowed me to really get involved with a brilliant product, at the same time as helping businesses with getting setup or on-going support.
Following my first ever role at Vodafone, I spent the next few years working in sales (as a contract renewal adviser) before moving into our One Net Enterprise team, where I started my development of – and gained subsequent success at – becoming a PRINCE2 recognised Project Manager, the training of which being available at Vodafone.
It was in 2014 where I made the move from Enterprise to Retail, where I became a trainer, focusing on delivering systems related training content to our retail stores. In this time, my early passion with computing and coding was rekindled. In 2015, I developed a training system that was (and is) used by our retail stores for learning how to process processes in systems. Since then, I have developed bespoke email platforms, feedback mechanisms, and am currently ready to release a new ‘chatbot’-esque app.
The thing I most love about working in a retail central team (and Vodafone in general) is that you can be creative, innovative, have ideas, and more importantly, realise the potential of all of the above! If there’s something you believe in, such as with my training system example, the people I work – and have worked – with, really support you, get on-board, and share your belief. It’s a bonus that you get recognised pretty nicely too (I had the amazing chance of driving the new Aston Martin from the James Bond ‘Spectre’ film!).
Over the past few years, not only have I worked with great people to deliver great things, but I can genuinely say I’ve loved every minute of it. I look forward to coming to work every day, looking at what I need to fix (if there’s a bug in my code!) and, in my way own way, using technology and the skills Vodafone have helped and allowed me to develop to not only bring the passion of coding at 12 years old back to the fold, but also use this skill to improve how we learn, communicate, and improve the experience of our customers and colleagues – the very fact that I feel others and I can make this difference is testament to how it feels to work for Vodafone.
With the evolution of technology, it’s unbelievably exciting to be in a technology company! Technology is all about innovation, improving, thinking outside of the box and striding for the next step. Well, this is what working for Vodafone is all about. If you ever wondered what it would be like to have the ability to be creative, have the opportunity to really make an impact no matter the size of the company, then be ready for one hell of a journey – come and join the family!
