I joined Vodafone in 2014 after being made redundant from a competitor. I was thrilled when the opportunity to become a Vodafone Store Manager became a reality a short time later. I was fortunate enough to start at Canary Wharf, leading a large team and overseeing a location change within the shopping centre, that saw us take over a brand new unit far larger than the previous one. What a challenge to learn and grow in such a fast paced environment.
After a successful period there, I moved within Region to the Heart of the City on London in Cheapside. Once again, a thoroughly enjoyable period, working with some amazing people who showed me daily that customer advocacy and high sales performance could be achieved in abundance. When my wife, young son and I moving to the coast to be nearer our parents, I had to look at alternative options outside of London. Fortunately, my Managers were very supportive and I found the transition to Portsmouth very smooth.
I loved this challenge, a brilliant team and a very different set of skills were required, but we rose to the challenge and had some of the most successful months the store has ever had. Then I earned a move into Southampton West Quay, in a Senior Store Manager role. A promotion to an Elite store, with a bigger team than I’d had before presented new challenges, but also new levels of success.
I achieved the pinnacle of performance by being confirmed as the leader of the most profitable store in the company. An achievement for which my team and I am very proud. Being recognised for a job well done was fantastic but it wasn’t by just my Manager, but his Manager and his - a terrific feeling! Vodafone is certainly a company that has encouraged and supported my development. I like to think that in turn I support the development of my team to achieve their potential too.
