It was a big move to leave Italy and join Vodafone’s technology graduate scheme, but it’s one I’m so glad I made. The work and the team are great and I’m feeling right at home within Vodafone.

My passion is technology, so the graduate scheme was an amazing opportunity for someone like me – the chance to work with the best technology in the field, basically. When I came for the interview, the whole experience was so welcoming that any worries I had about fitting in with the language and the culture disappeared.

After spending time in the stores I moved on to technology where I’m taking the lead for the first time. In retail, I found the different accents quite tricky at first. But the team were amazing and once I’d got the hang of it I really enjoyed the whole experience. Now I’m a project manager, I have to ask people to do things for me…not something I’ve had to think about before. My manager’s incredibly supportive, and I feel my confidence growing every day.

One of the key things here is the quality of life – both in work and outside it. I love the fact that it’s not about the number of hours you spend at your desk, but about the quality of the work you do. And there’s an amazing sense of community too, which is great when you’re new to the country like I am. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and Vodafone gives you a certain number of days each year to support good causes. So far I’ve painted a centre for disabled people and I took part in Store Wars, which was 12 teams competing to raise money for terminally ill children. Both were really rewarding experiences.
