You may be aware that on 2nd April, two men holding hands in Arnhem, Netherlands, were the victims of a vicious hate crime where they were brutally attacked by a group of teenage boys.
The individuals involved were Ronnie and his husband Jaspar. Ronnie is a Customer Care team leader at VodafoneZiggo.
Ronnie and Jaspar are receiving good care and victim support has been made available to both of them to deal with this horrific homophobic act. Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.
There has been a strong show of support for Ronnie and Jaspar, with men taking to the streets and walking “hand in hand” to show solidarity. On social media you can show your support for Ronnie and Jaspar using #handinhand or #allemannenhandinhand
These acts are deeply saddening and a reminder that we have much further to go to ensure every LGBT+ person in every country is free to be themselves without exception.
We are proud that Vodafone is taking a leading role on LGBT+ inclusion. We still have more to do, and everyone has a key role to play in creating truly inclusive environments for everyone – at work and in the communities we are part of.
Being visible and showing your support matters. It lets colleagues know you are by their side, gives them the confidence to be themselves, and it changes attitudes for the better.
