Senior Product Counsel
Reporting to the Head of Legal for Vodafone UK, you will provide specialist and expert legal advice to support the development of UK products, in both a commercial and contractual capacity. As a strategic business partner, you will be excellent at building and maintaining relationships with senior stakeholders (up to board level).
Provision of legal support to the teams within UK Enterprise Product Management function.
Legal support to New Product and Service introduction and updates to existing Products and Services
Representing Legal at resource planning and capacity planning meetings (e.g. Q+, 9+15)
Support the creation of Enterprise UK Product Schedules contract template strategy across Vodafone UK Enterprise
Working closely with the Group Enterprise Legal Product team to develop and maintain an aligned approach
Providing expert advice on structuring, and drafting and negotiating contracts with suppliers, partners and customers required in the development and deployment of the Enterprise Product catalogue.
Responsibility for the activities of the Enterprise Products Legal team engaged in drafting and negotiating contracts with suppliers and partners and others for the development and deployment of Enterprise Products.
Driving the legal contracting agenda for suppliers and partners engaged in the provision of Enterprise Products, developing strong relationships with legal colleagues in the UK Supply Chain and Vodafone Procurement Company (VPC) to determine roles and responsibilities in relation to the drafting and negotiation of contracts for Enterprise Products.
Maintaining effective contacts with relevant individuals with other key functions outside Enterprise Product Management involved in the development and/or deployment of Enterprise Products, such as Regulatory professionals in the Public Policy teams, Technology, Service etc., influencing and assisting in discussions with such personnel to ensure the best legal solution to meet commercial objectives.
Assisting in the development of best practice within Vodafone with regard to the legal aspects of commercial and contractual matters with regard to product development and deployment.
Assisting in the training of teams within the Product Management function on key legal issues.
Report progress of matter to Lead Counsel.
Support members of the team with legal advice and personal development.
University honours degree (second class or better)
Solicitor or barrister with significant post-qualification experience practising in either private practice or in an in-house role in the commercial field.
Able to deal with highly complex and high risk issues in relation to contentious matters. Excellent level of general legal knowledge.
Expert drafting skills and able to draft all necessary documentation up to the highest level of complexity
Excellent level of commercial judgement and consultancy skills; able to advise internal customers confidently and effectively at all levels
Excellent negotiation and influencing skills and able to lead negotiations on complex settlement negotiations.
Excellent decision making skills on conduct of all matters within the working area and able to provide leadership on strategic issues relating to settlement of contentious matters.
Excellent communication skills and able to deliver concise, clear, commercial and logical advice tailored to the audience.
Able to review legal work of others and provide coaching and guidance in relation to matters of dispute resolution.
Able to act unsupervised on contentious and under little or no supervision on policy/complex strategic issues
Able to select, appoint, monitor and maintain relationship with outside counsel and, in particular, to develop relationships with Barristers as appropriate.
Excellent knowledge of the Vodafone UK business within the subject area and good overall knowledge of company structures, procedures, functions and personalities; general knowledge of group structures, roles and procedures.
Ability to build and maintain excellent network of client contacts across the business, other relevant industry groups, relevant professional external contacts
