Data Engineering Governance Lead 


As a Data Engineering Governance Lead within Vodafone’s Data & Analytics team, you will define and own all areas of data governance including data definitions, data privacy, data strategy, data quality, Master Data Management, data lineage across GCP pipeline and GDPR on behalf of Nucleus, Vodafone’s largest Data project. 


Nucleus is a multi-year, international progamme delivering enhanced data and analytics capabilities on Google Cloud. Data governance is a critical topic for Vodafone and you will need to work with other teams within an enterprise-wide data governance program, to ensure that Nucleus Data Products and underlying pipelines are compliant. You will engage Data & Analytics teams in Markets to elicit KPI requirements and proactively manage data as an asset, as a part of the Nucleus Programme. 


A key part of the role, involves defining and communicating common data definitions and working with markets to catalogue and curate local KPIs. Candidates will need to have a good knowledge of the cloud architecture, with a focus on GCP, ideally around telecoms industry, as well as data governance processes & tools, in particular Collibra. They will need to understand how the Vodafone business works, in order to drive effective decisions on data definitions. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of Data & Analytics and will be responsible for ensuring a “single version of the truth” across Vodafone.

You will

  • Own Data Engineering across Nucleus
  • Document processes and policies to operate within the GCP pipeline
  • Ensure GCP pipeline is fit for purpose and cost efficient
  • Manage Data Quality processes
  • Ensure products have effective data quality measures in place
  • Ensure Data Quality Monitioring is in operations 
  • Set up and own Data Cataloging
  • Own Local Definitions Catalogue - Collibra
  • Engage markets to ensure KPI definitions are correctly defined and catalogued into Collibra
  • Be the expert in KPIs and data transfer within the GCP pipeline
  • Measure alignment to common Vodafone definitions
  • Chair regular data governance meetings with markets
  • Contribute to overall Nucleus Data Governance Strategy


You must have

  • Degree qualified in data related subject 
  • GCP data pipeline engineering (CDF/CGS/BigQ/cloud composer/etc.)
  • Strong influencing and analysis skills 
  • Data governance Skills 
  • Extensive experience of BI systems, data governance and compliance activities (exposure to Collibra)
  • In addition, knowledge/experience of Telecoms
