“What I am looking forward to achieving in 2020? Answering this question is no easy task, especially knowing that my time on the graduate scheme is coming to an end. But my time on the graduate scheme and everything I have been able to achieve has set me up to have an amazing career in technology! I started on the Vodafone Technology Graduate Scheme in September 2018, and I felt super excited but nervous at the same time. There are so many different areas in technology I was intrigued to see where I would be able to make an impact. Since joining, I’ve had 3 rotations and been able to work in AI, Robotics and Machine Learning. Having the opportunity to change roles has been valuable and allowed me to prepare for new challenges and gain new skills, including things I never thought I would be able to do! My most recent accomplishment that started my 2020 off with a bang was building complex machine learning models using deep neural networks - which I am incredibly proud of! I wonder what will come next? For the rest of 2020, I will finish my final rotation in Data Analytics/Science, building more sophisticated models to help improve efficiency in my area and make an impact on my team. Soon, I’ll begin the process of off-boarding to a permanent role which I’m looking forward to. I know I’ll be able to find a position that utilises and builds on my current skill set, as well as offering the chance to achieve more great things. Being a graduate at Vodafone has been a gratifying experience, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for me!” Want to learn more about our graduate and student programmes? “We wake up every morning with a hunger for a better society, future and community. Not just for us, but for everyone. Our hunger is rooted in what other generations perceive as our downfall - we’ve got it all. However, we put this privilege to good use. When history tells us “can’t”, we ask “why not?” When confronted with past patterns of failure, we pick up the pen and draw new lines.   We are changing the way the world is seen. We have identified what doesn’t work. It is within our DNA to identify what does. To do that, we are inspired by the revolutionaries of the past. Today, our women: code; study STEM subjects, and play a pivotal role in the boardroom. Our men refuse to follow tradition and are driven by ideals of inclusivity and fairness. Together, we cure cancer whilst we sleep, champion diversity at every level, and create IoT solutions to prevent environmental catastrophe.   Things are moving and they’re moving fast. Whether it be: paid-charity leave; the Vodafone Foundation, or getting involved with our networks – at Vodafone, we are encouraged to grasp the reins.   I found out about Vodafone’s paid charity leave at my assessment centre. I remember having a conversation during the lunch-break with a bunch of other soon-to-be-grads on what we would do. We shared the causes we are passionate about, movements that make us proud, and fundraising ideas. That, to me, is who we are - a forward-thinking collective whose eyes light up at the idea of change.   We live in a world all too often plagued by crises, uncertainties and fake news. The cure? Generation Possible.” Want to learn more about our graduate and student programmes? Click below.  Learn More

Today we are recognising The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, because at present, only around 30% of all female students select Science, Technology Engineering or Maths related fields in higher education.    This day was established 5 years ago, and it recognizes the critical role women and girls play in science and technology.  With gender equality being a global priority to all, today was implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women with an aim to promote women and girls into science. At Vodafone, we’re working hard to make sure we’re supporting more women and girls into science and technology through a number of initiatives: Vodafone have publicly pledged to be the world’s employer for women by 2025 globally! In terms of recruitment, we aim for 50/50 gender split for candidate shortlistsProviding flexible working practices and our award winning ReConnect programme helps women who want to work in the Tech space a flexible way of re-entering the workplace. You can find out more about this programme here. And finally in the Future Talent space…Code Like A Girl – Teaching female students all the digital and coding skills they need for the workplace. “Hi, my name is Kaneesha Banker and I’m an HR Discover Graduate in the Group Resourcing team. I started as an Intern in 2018 within Group Diversity & Inclusion, before joining the graduate scheme as an HR graduate - I’ve loved every minute!    Over the last year and a half, I’ve discovered new possibilities in each rotation and role. As we move onto achieving bigger things as a company, we’ve recently shifted to our new culture - the Spirit of Vodafone. The Spirit of Vodafone calls for us to place and live the four behaviours through all our work - earning customer loyalty, getting things done together, learning through experiments and creating the future. Vodafone has seen many changes to its purpose and culture but this one truly resonates. I am certain that this very culture will drive graduates, like myself, into 2020 with a positive impact on our teams, our organisation and our development. As Graduates, will aim to create the future with our pioneering spirits while working together with our colleagues and experimenting with new ways of delivering the best customer experience.   From a Resourcing point of view, future candidates will be Vodafone customers. During my final 8 months in the scheme, from January-September 2020, I will place these candidates at the heart of my goals - by consciously thinking of ways to improve each step within their application process: whether that is during the attracting, sourcing, assessing or onboarding stage. Given the limitless possibilities, I will look to introduce new concepts or tools supporting my goals and to also influence senior leaders and help in implementing the changes.    On a personal front, I also aim to contribute to the purpose of Vodafone - 'to connect for a better future.' As we place sustainability at our core, as we aim to improve the lives of millions of women around the world and as we ensure that we are always championing inclusion in its entirety, I will look to drive this purpose forward by ensuring that I contribute towards it by playing an active part as well as leading on various initiatives.”  Want to learn more about our graduate and student programmes?
