Meet Kev - Senior Marketing Manager

It wasn’t my intention to work for a multinational telco, I was happy working for a successful, family owned reseller in the IP Telephony and Contact Centre environment, but when Vodafone bought Central Telecom in late 2008, I learnt very quickly that working for one the UK’s largest communication organisations was exactly where I should be. 


I graduated from the University of Derby with a degree in Business Studies.  I was clear right from the get-go that I wanted to work in marketing and I was fortunate enough to secure a role at Central Telecom, a reasonably sized and successful privately owned business working as a Marketing Assistant.  Why Marketing?  It suited my skills -  combining creativity and innovation with insight and analytics. Why Central Telecom?  It was a fast growing, agile reseller organisation. It had aspirations to be the communication partner of choice for national private and public sector organisations providing fixed solutions (IPT, Calls and lines, contact centres) working alongside Avaya, Mitel and Nortel.  I wanted to gain as much experience as possible across the entirety of the marketing mix and I wanted to work for an organisation in the techsector, that was punching above its weight and winning. After 9 great years of moving through the organisation gaining demand generation, event, and online experience I became Head of Marketing for the company and it was soon after this that Vodafone bought Central Telecom.  

For Vodafone UK this was one of the first initial steps towards convergence. 

For me…I had a choice, choose to stay in the Midlands and look for a local opportunity or take up the cultural challenge of going from working for a family business to one of the world’s largest mobile operators.  The decision was easy and I’ve not looked back.  Working for Vodafone continues to broaden my experience and has offers me unlimited opportunities.  I’ve worked as a UC Marketing Manager as we began our journey to convergence, in around 2009.  I’ve led our demand generation marketing activity for our mid-market teams and developed vertical market stories for Retail, Finance and Legal and just over 12 months ago I became the Senior Marketing Lead for the Partners and Alliances function of Enterprise – bringing my experience of working for an indirect partner, my convergence background, relationship with alliance organisations and my nearly 9 years of experience at Vodafone neatly into a role that I believe was made for me.  I love the fact that nothing at Vodafone stays the same for too long, that we work in a fast paced industry and that there are so many opportunities.  I’m loving the challenge of winning the hearts and minds of our partner community and the personal challenge of becoming a digital marketer.  At Vodafone we do make difference, what we do matters and I’m proud to play my part.
