Meet Craig - Higher Technology Apprentice

I chose Vodafone’s apprenticeship programme because I was looking to explore vastly different areas of Technology and experience a little of the University lifestyle as well.

Why did you decide to join an apprenticeship programme?
I chose to join an apprenticeship programme because I knew it would give me the best of both worlds. I would be able to learn and work at the same time, kick-starting my career and gaining real life working experiences from an early age.

Why did you choose to do your apprenticeship with Vodafone in particular?
I chose Vodafone’s apprenticeship programme because I was looking to explore vastly different areas of Technology and experience a little of the University lifestyle as well.

What do you do on a day to day basis?
I work in Technology Operations. On a day to day basis I spend a lot of my time programming where I help to build tools for our customers. Each month my team has deliverables and we regularly discuss how we are going achieve them and update each other in team meetings.

What are you most proud of since kick-starting your career?
Since kick-starting my career I am most proud of completing a project where I was asked to optimize the code for Operational Intelligence, which produced a better and more efficient user experience. This played a big part in my first few months at Vodafone and was a big learning curve for me and has really benefited the business.

What has the learning curve been like?
The Vodafone apprenticeship programme has been a challenging learning curve with rapid progress. Coming from college into a full time job is really different, and University is managed well and integrated within my role. I was thrown in the deep end so have picked things up quickly because my team mates have made me feel welcome and have shown me the ropes from day one.
