We connect for a better future
Vodafone is a British multinational company, with our headquarters based in Newbury, England. Founded in the 1982, Vodafone UK network proudly launched in 1985 by making the very first mobile call on a UK network from Parliament square to Surrey.
By December 1992 Vodafone sent the world’s first ever SMS text message, which read ‘Merry Christmas’ and since then Vodafone have become one of the world’s leading technology communication companies with many firsts in our history to date.
The UK market has 12,000 employees, who support our 18 million customers and 625+ million customers globally to connect for a better future.
Our purpose is to “connect for a better future” and our expertise and scale gives us a unique opportunity to drive positive change for society. Our networks keep family, friends, businesses and governments connected and – as COVID-19 has clearly demonstrated – we play a vital role in keeping economies running and the functioning of critical sectors like education and healthcare.
We are optimistic about how technology and connectivity can enhance the future and improve people’s lives. Through our business, we aim to build a digital society that enhances socio-economic progress, embraces everyone and does not come at the cost of our planet.
We support diversity and inclusion through our maternity and parental leave policies, empowering women through connectivity and improving access to education and digital skills for women, girls, and society at large. We are respectful of all individuals, irrespective of race, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, belief, culture or religion.
Vodafone is also taking significant steps to reduce our impact on our planet by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2025, purchasing 100% of our electricity from renewable sources by 2025, and reusing, reselling or recycling 100% of our redundant network equipment.
